One of the nation's 11 original family medicine residency programs, we've been training family physicians since 1969. We are one of the most advanced and high-functioning healthcare systems in the country, preparing our residents with the skills to meet the challenges and needs of tomorrow's primary care. Residents have unparalleled access to resources in primary care, specialty care, inpatient medicine, emergent care, health systems training, and research.
Training sites
- Seattle Capitol Hill Campus (Match #1811120C0): 4 residents in each class (total of 12) with multi-specialty services on-site
- Burien Medical Center (Match #1811120C1): 2 residents in each class (total of 6) south of Seattle in a smaller group practice training setting

What makes us stand out?
Advanced primary care. Kaiser Permanente Washington cares for 700,000 patients across the state of Washington, and family medicine is the foundation of our care delivery system. This setting offers the opportunity to practice full-spectrum family medicine, integrated specialty care, robust support staff, incorporation of virtual medicine, and access to the most up-to-date medical resources.
Longitudinal training. This curriculum differs from the traditional "block" model. We have departed from spending one month on a particular specialty or inpatient service at a time. Instead, we integrate the various aspects of training throughout each of the three years, providing consistent exposure and learning on different topics. Residents care for a panel of 400 patients while transitioning among OB, internal medicine, pediatrics, urgent care, geriatrics, and other specialty settings.
